Attended by 23 teachers and 36 students from Archdiocese of Kuala Lumpur, represented by students and teachers from churches in Klang, Shah Alam, Sentul, Setapak, Kajang, Petaling Jaya and Kuala Lumpur as well as SFA Cheras.
There were 3 presenters namely, Mdm Tan Heng Chan, retired school principal. She was given the privilege to be part of the National SPM BK Quiz Team and SPM BK Project Coordinating Team. Next we have Ms Tay Bee Lian, retired maths teacher from Temerloh. Now she is teaching Bible Knowledge online for F3 & F4 students. Our third presenter is Ms Satkunamary Gnanakkan, retired English language teacher from KL and she is involved in teaching Bible Knowledge and running the National SPM Bible Knowledge Quiz. All are members of the Teachers Christian Fellowship, Malaysia.
The training workshop starts with Fr Paul Cheong OFM Cap of SFA officiating the event with his opening prayer and touches on the importance of Bible Knowledge. He also emphasise to all the participants of cultivating the 8 habits of SFA where Daily Bible Reading (Habit No 2) is a discipline that will help us to grow deeper in relationship with God.
The programme consist of three workshops i.e. 1) Tips and techniques to learn and answer BK questions, 2) Answering practice for students to get familiar with the SPM BK format and 3) Marking techniques and marking practices for teachers.
The presenters was able to use students answers as samples to guide the participants by giving good tips and techniques of answering questions. Students are given hands-on practice in answering SPM BK questions and teachers were taught how to mark based on marking schemes provided. Students were also given opportunity to do revision exercises and classroom activities.
The workshop ends with closing prayer by Fr Paul Cheong and presentation of token to the presenters. Finally a group photography session was held to close the workshop.
Overall, the workshop was well received by the students and teachers and feedback from students was very encouraging as the materials/handouts provided were very useful.
